Why Have a Natural Burial?

When planning a funeral there are generally two options – a traditional burial in a cemetery or cremation. However, there is a third option growing in popularity – a natural burial, also known as an eco-burial.

A natural burial involves being buried in a natural location, such as a woodland or meadow site, rather than a traditional cemetery, using a degradable coffin so that everything eventually returns to a natural state.

Traditional burial is becoming difficult as cemeteries are full and take up valuable land, while cremation also has an environmental impact through the gases and fossil fuels used. With a natural burial, these problems aren't an issue. Benefits include little impact on the environment, a choice of woodland and meadow locations, official sites that ensure rules are followed, and a peaceful place for relatives to visit.
